Tele2’s mobile network passes on the wrong date to its customers. The reports are pouring in that it is already January 1 on users’ phones instead of December 31.

The result of the wrong date transmission has different effects. For example, applications can crash and certain scheduled operations, such as making backups, can be performed at times when this may not be convenient. On the practical side, there are reports of Tele2 customers whose alarm clocks did not go off because they were set to go off exactly on Saturday 31 December.

There are many reports of Android devices that are affected and a few that also suffer from the problem on Windows 10 Mobile. There are no notifications from iPhone users seeing the wrong date.

According to DroidApp, the problem also occurs with the Internet connections and television connections of Tele2, but it is unclear whether this actually leads to problems in these areas. Tele2 is said to be working on solving the problem. Meanwhile, users can turn off automatic time synchronization on their smartphones and manually set the correct time and date.
