The standalone version of the zombie game DayZ has sold two million copies since it was released on Steam. Lead developer Dean Hall announced this on Twitter. The alpha version of the game is currently available through Steam Early Access.

The standalone, which stems from the DayZ mod for ArmA II: Combined Operations, landed one of the best-selling games on Steam from day one. It sold one million copies in its first month. Currently, the game is in third place of best-selling games. Because DayZ two million times is sold, developer Bohemia Interactive would have raised about 50 million euros.

DayZ is currently available through Steam’s early access option. Hall previously announced that the game, which is still in the testing phase, will be in the development phase until at least the spring of 2015. During the test phase, a lot will change in the game, which means that the final version will differ in many ways from the version that two million gamers now own.

Hall will leave Bohemia at the end of this year. He then returns to New Zealand. The success of the DayZ mod earned him a contract with Czech development studio Bohemia Interactive.
