Stability AI will release Stable Diffusion XL next month. The image generation model is better at rendering hands and can still run on a modern home computer.

Stability AI announced version 0.9 on Thursday evening, with plans to release version 1.0 by the middle of next month. Stable Diffusion XL has continued to develop in the two months since the beta was announced, the maker claims.

System requirements include an Nvidia RTX 20 card or newer, with 8GB of VRAM. AMD cards require 16GB of VRAM, but AMD cards only work on Linux systems. With Nvidia cards, Windows 10 and Windows 11 are also an option. In all cases, the system must have at least 16GB of RAM. Stable Diffusion competes with Midjourney and OpenAI Dall-E, among others, for image generation.
