Software Update: Windows XP Mode 1.1.7112.1 Beta

Microsoft has released Windows XP Mode 1.1.7112.1 beta. Windows XP Mode focuses on providing a Windows XP environment for applications that no longer work correctly under Windows 7, while there was no problem under Windows XP. It requires an installation of Windows Virtual PC on the Windows 7 workstation. So it is actually nothing more than an image in which a virtual Windows XP installation can already be found. The brief description of this beta version is as follows:

Windows XP Mode for Windows 7 makes it easy to install and run many of your Windows XP productivity applications directly from a Windows 7-based PC. It utilizes virtualization technology such as Windows Virtual PC to provide a Virtual Windows XP environment for Windows 7.

Windows XP Mode provides a 32-bit Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (SP3) environment pre-loaded on a virtual hard disk. Client virtualization software, like Windows Virtual PC is a pre-requisite to use Windows XP Mode.
