Skype is a peer-to-peer Internet telephony program. The connection for conducting a call would be more stable and reliable due to more efficient routing techniques. In addition, the sound quality would even be superior to that of a landline call. Finally, Skype also offers simple instant messaging capabilities and, unlike its counterparts, should work flawlessly in almost all environments with firewalls, routers and NAT.

The development team recently released version 0.95.0.25 beta with the following changelog:

Features:

• translate Skype user interface and load user translations
• log off from Skype
• incoming notifications are suppressed if you are in Don’t Disturb mode
• Text Message History is optional
• Text Message History will be shown in reversed format (from older messages to newest)
• Text Message window will show 5 last messages in 12 hours
• optional IRC-like style in message window
• possibility to show/hide offline friends under View -> Show Offline Friends

Changes:

• improved sound quality for calls over TCP connection
• clearing call history clears addressbar dropdown, too
• ignored authorization requests are preserved on start tab
• added a horizontal scrollbar to Find a Friend results grid
• only one instance of blocked users window can be opened
• renamed user is displayed with local name in ‘manage blocked users’
• ESC key closes options and ‘manage blocked users’ dialogs
• blocked users are always considered to be offline
• relevant Friends List and call history menu items are disabled if user is blocked

Bug fixes:

• fixed 3002 ‘division by zero’ (3109 ‘division by zero’) error
• fixed 3201 ‘Error initiating communication Layer’ on non-Latin username accounts
• minimizing main window during search from addressbar no longer results in ‘cannot focus a disabled or invisible window’ error message
