Download RealVNC 4.0
Controlling a computer remotely can be very useful for things like servers, or just not having to walk up or down stairs to do something on that other PC. One of the most popular programs to do this is RealVNC. The software gives you the option to remotely take over a desktop, or just view it, without much fuss. The entire program is open source and partly because of this it is also available for many operating systems.
Meanwhile, RealVNC has arrived at version 4.0, which contains a lot of improvements compared to the previous version (3.3.7). The main changes for all operating systems are the following:
- Support for dynamic resizing of the desktop
- Support for rendering of cursor by VNC Viewers
- New F8 Menu
- New, more flexible and simpler configuration system
- New, clean code base
- IdleTimeout: More useful behavior for idle client detection
- Improved (host) IP address based access control system
- Improved keyboard handling
- Improved detection of and adaptation to network bandwidth
- Improved and more configurable brute-force protection
- Ability to deal with colormaps (palettes) efficiently at the viewer end
- New and improved Java VNC Viewer
- Additional color levels for slow links
- Better colors on 8-bit paletted viewers
- Support for “Windows” and Menu keys
- Viewer rate-limiting of pointer events for slow connections
[break]Furthermore, the *n?x and Windows source code variants each have their own improvements. The whole overview is available here† Those who want to download the software can visit the download page of the project.
