Software update: REALbasic 2005 release 1

Today REAL Software announced the next generation of its development environment REALbasic. The package has great compatibility with Visual Basic and also includes an application to convert Visual Basic source code to REALbasic. The new version has received the extraordinarily original 2005 addition and is available for Windows† Mac OS X and for the first time too Linux† For Linux, the software is still in beta status. Below is a bite of the Windows version announcement:

REALbasic for Windows includes a host of new features and functionality designed to make the transition easy for Visual Basic developers, including:

• REALbasic 2005 has a new browser-style tabbed interface that makes it very easy to navigate for new users. New toolbars have been added that contain the most common functions; a status bar provides up-to-the-minute information. View a screenshot.
• REALbasic’s newly redesigned interface also helps experienced users be more productive. Multiple projects can now be opened and searched. Search results, including those found with regular expressions, can be listed in batch. REALbasic 2005 also includes a new database browser. All of these capabilities make it easier to work more efficiently.
• Web pages or any other HTML-based content can now be displayed directly in any REALbasic application via a new HTML viewer control.
• REALbasic Professional Edition now includes the ability to create custom controls. It also makes it easy to encapsulate code in order to facilitate code maintenance.
• REALbasic 2005 includes REAL SQL Database, a new SQLite-based single-user database engine recently acquired from SQLabs.
• The new REALbasic 2005 for Windows IDE is even more compatible with Visual Basic, so Visual Basic developers can feel right at home with REALbasic.
• REALbasic is now made with REALbasic and is an excellent example of the kind of software that can be created with REALbasic.
