Software update: Notepad++ 5.5.1

A small update of Notepad++ was released on Friday with version number 5.5.1. Notepad++ is an extensive text editor with various features that are useful for programmers, such as syntax highlighting for C, C++, Java, html, xml and php, among others. Notepad++ also offers the possibility to edit multiple documents at the same time or even to maintain one document in two different places. The new icon, which was introduced in version 5.5, does not seem to be to everyone’s taste, because in this release the old one has returned. The changelog also shows the following changes:

Notepad++ v5.5.1 new features and fixed bugs (from v5.5) :

  • Old icon is back.
  • Set “.txt” extension automatically while saving a document text.
  • Real characters count is added in status bar.
  • Fix some memory leaks.
  • Add “open all” capacity in finder (for find in files).
  • Replaced nppcm with NppShell (in installer).
    • Dialog to allow change of various settings (cmd : regsvr32 /s /i NppShell.dll)
    • Context menu icon properly rendered
    • Incorporate dynamic icon for registered filetypes
