Software update: µTorrent 1.8.4 build 16150 RC

A few days ago a new version of the 1.8 series of µTorrent was released. This version is released as a release candidate and should therefore be fairly stable. µTorrent is a very complete BitTorrent client that uses very little memory and processor, and the size of the program itself is minimal. The main improvement in this release is the support for so-called magnet bundles. The changelog further shows a small collection of changes and improvements:

New features:

  • Enabled magnet bundles.

  • Run the 64 bit version of explorer when running as a 32 bit app in a 64 bit windows os.
  • Disable toolbar offers for Wine installs
  • Uninstaller is added to all user profiles
  • Incomplete downloads sort after completed downloads if sorting by “Completed On”
  • If selected, install start menu and desktop shortcuts to all users instead of only current user

  • Crash when assigning new label to torrents from RSS
  • Maintain category list selection on update for some edge cases
  • Buffer overrun vulnerability in create torrent dialog
  • Check at startup for incompatible versions of NVIDIA nForce firewall
