The team behind the Skyblivion mod has uploaded video with new gameplay footage and a roadmap showing what it will be working on in the coming years. Skyblivion is a remake of Oblivion in the Skyrim engine that should be released ‘no later than 2025’.

The main game world of Oblivion consists of nine regions. Six of these have been recreated in the Skyrim engine. The Nibenay Valley and Nibenay Basin regions are both about half done; West Weald is about fifteen percent finished. This means that the entire Cyrodiil map is more than eighty percent complete. The maps within buildings such as castles and shops are about forty percent finished, with the caveat that the team has mainly focused on larger and more complex maps. The makers therefore expect that the next maps will be ready faster.

Oblivion also has some maps that take place outside this game world, such as the Oblivion realms and dream worlds. These maps are a quarter done; The team still needs to work on the Oblivion realms in particular. After all game worlds are ready, the navigation paths of the NPCs still need to be indicated. With this, the developers are approximately 33 percent done. This means that in these parts of the game world, NPCs and quests fully work.

The makers are less advanced with other parts of development. For example, they say they lag behind the 3D models of, for example, clothing and buildings in cities. The latter sometimes leads to bottlenecks, namely when level makers cannot complete a city because certain 3D models are still missing.

Of the almost 200 quests, 97 are now playable and 25 are actively in development; 77 has yet to be started. The Fighters Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests are all done, but the Mages and Thieves Guild quests, and the Main Quest are less than half done. All Daedric quests are also ready, as are almost all sidequests.

The gameplay mechanics also need work. Alchemy, spellcrafting, underwater combat and weather are ready, but the class system and disposition system, among other things, are not yet finished. The team says it may want to add additional mechanics in the future, as well as DLC. In 2025, only Oblivion itself will appear in the Skyrim engine; DLC such as Shivering Isles will follow afterwards.

Skyblivion has been in development since 2012. Earlier this year, the team announced that it wanted to release the mod in 2025. To play Skyblivion, both Skyrim and Oblivion are required. The team says it is still looking for volunteers to help create the mod.
