SK Hynix introduces its Lpddr5t memory. According to the manufacturer, this memory achieves speeds of up to 9.6 Gbit/s, up to 13 percent faster than its current Lpddr5x memory. The company is currently providing customers with samples. Mass production should begin later this year.

SK Hynix announced the arrival of ‘Lpddr5 Turbo’ on Wednesday. According to the manufacturer, this mobile dram achieves speeds of 9600Mbit/s. The current Lpddr5x standard, released by Jedec in 2021, supports speeds up to 8355Mbit/s. The company shares few technical details about the new memory. SK Hynix does say that the modules run on a vdd voltage of 1.01 to 1.12V.

The company currently provides customers with 16GB sample packages. The company will mass-produce Lpddr5t memory in the second half of this year on its 1anm process, the chipmaker’s fourth generation 10nm node based on EUV lithography. The company uses High-K metal gates, which should reduce leakage currents and improve the capacitance of transistors.

Lpddr5 memory is mainly intended for use in smartphones and laptops. This also applies to Lpddr5t, although SK Hynix states that the memory can also be used in, for example, AR and VR applications. The South Korean memory maker further states that Lpddr5t is a kind of interim step while it works on Lpddr6 memory.
