Several Google Drive users say they have lost months of files

Several Google Drive users say they have lost files they stored on the cloud service. According to the users, the files were not deleted manually and the recycle bin is empty.

On the Google Drive support page a user reports that his or her ‘files have suddenly disappeared’. This reportedly concerns all files added since May 2023. The folder structure would have been reverted to the status it was in May.

Other users report similar experiences, although the number of months of files lost varies. Both business and regular users appear to be affected by the problem. Google has not yet been able to solve the problems.

Despite running recovery software, the missing files were not recovered according to affected users. Google says product engineers are still investigating the issue and discourages users from making any changes to the root or data folder on their own.
