Sea of Thieves has 15 million players and Steam version has been sold a million times

Since its release in March 2018, 15 million players have played Sea of Thieves. At the beginning of this year, there were still 10 million. Microsoft does not disclose how many active players there are. However, the company says that the game has been sold a million times on Steam.

More people played Sea of Thieves in the first half of this year than in all of 2019, Microsoft says. June this year was the biggest month for the game to date; 3.3 million players were added at the time. According to Microsoft, that’s partly due to the release on Steam. The game has been on sale there for the beginning of June for forty euros.

Sea of Thieves was released in 2018 in the Microsoft Store and for the Xbox One. When the game was released, there was much criticism of the lack of content. The game received many expansions afterward and was added to the Game Pass subscription, adding many players. The PC and console versions have crossplay functionality.

Users who have recently started playing the game seem to be positive about the game. This is evident from the user reviews on Steam, where the game is rated as ‘very positive’ on average. With 4.4 out of 10, the user score on Metacritic is much lower. There are usually reviews of players who started the game in 2018.
