Samsung is also giving cheaper A-series phones three Android upgrades

Samsung will provide more devices with three Android upgrades, including A-series phones and select tablets. Previously, Samsung promised to only provide ‘expensive phones’ with these upgrades.

It does not seem that all Samsung A-phones will get the three upgrades, Samsung writes that only ‘certain’ upcoming A-smartphones will get the upgrades. At least the Samsung Galaxy A90, A71 and A51 are going to get the three Android OS upgrades. The other device series does not have the word ‘certain’, so presumably all upcoming devices in this series will receive the three upgrades.

The news report also shows that older devices are going to get the three upgrades. For example, the Galaxy S10 phones are eligible, as well as the Note10 smartphones. All foldable devices in the Foldable series will receive the upgrades, including the Galaxy Fold. New tablets in the Tab S series will also receive the three upgrades, starting with the Tab S6.

Samsung says it wants to give three free software upgrades, because users use their devices for longer and longer. With the additional upgrade, the company claims to extend the lifespan of the device. Finally, Samsung says the Galaxy S20 will be the first Galaxy device to receive the Android 11 upgrade and it will come to the phone later this year. Other devices will follow ‘shortly’ thereafter. Samsung promised at the presentation of the Note20 that certain phones would get the three upgrades, but at the time did not specify which devices these would be.
