Samsung closes Indian smartphone factory for two days

Samsung and LG have closed factories in the country for two days on the orders of the Indian government to contain the risks related to the corona virus. It is Samsung’s largest smartphone factory.

Samsung will close its factory in Noida, India from March 23-25. It is Samsung’s largest factory worldwide; the company opened that factory in 2018 and produces 120 million smartphones per year, mainly for the Indian market. The company tells ZDNet that it is working hard to prevent the temporary closure from leading to delivery problems. Samsung has more than 70,000 employees in India.

LG also closes a factory in Noida and one in Pune. LG makes various devices in the factories. The Indian government has ordered the temporary closure to limit the impact of the new corona virus. According to the India Times, Oppo and Vivo have also temporarily halted smartphone production.

Earlier in March, Samsung had to temporarily close its factory in Gumi in its home country of South Korea after employees were found to be infected with the virus. After two days, production of the Galaxy Z Flip could be resumed.
