Microsoft has released its most recent quarterly results. It shows that the turnover of its gaming division increased by 64 percent compared to a year ago. That increase amounts to $ 1.3 billion. Xbox hardware sales increased by 49 percent.

Microsoft released its quarterly results on its website. This concerns the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2020, which ended on June 30. In particular, sales of Microsoft’s gaming division rose sharply during the past quarter, by 64 percent. That equates to an increase of $ 1.3 billion over the same period in 2019, the company writes. For example, revenues from ‘Xbox content and services’ increased by 65 percent compared to a year ago. That increase is good for $ 1.2 billion, which equates to approximately EUR 1.04 billion.

Xbox hardware sales also increased 49 percent from the fourth fiscal quarter of 2019, driven by an increased number of consoles sold, the company reports. Microsoft does not specify the exact revenue from Xbox hardware. Earlier this month, Microsoft already stopped production of the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. The company did this because the Xbox Series X is on the way. Microsoft will hold a presentation on Thursday evening at 6:00 PM showing Series X games.

Windows revenue also increased by six percent, which is an increase of $ 337 million. This growth is partly due to increased OEM sales, the company reports. Revenue from the company’s Surface products was up 28 percent, or $ 374 million. Microsoft’s productivity division has a six percent increase in sales, which equates to $ 705 million. Most of this increase comes from Office products. Its turnover increased by $ 394 million.

Total sales in the quarter were $ 38.03 billion, slightly higher than sales in the same period in 2019, when the company posted sales of approximately $ 33.72 billion. However, the company’s costs also rose this year, dropping revenues by about 15 percent to $ 11.20 billion. That is about 9.67 billion euros.
