Rumor: Several American providers want to buy Yahoo
Three major US providers are in talks with Yahoo about a takeover. That rumor reports tech site Recode. These are Verizon, AT&T and cable company Comcast. The management of Yahoo wants a buyer to offer ten billion dollars, currently around nine billion euros.
Yahoo this week entered into talks with the major American providers, according to Recode. Microsoft is involved in those talks because the company is willing to invest money in a possible acquisition. With this it wants to ensure that a company with which it can work well takes over Yahoo. Yahoo and Microsoft have had an intensive collaboration for several years and Microsoft wants to continue this after a takeover.
The internet company announced last month that it is up for sale. Yahoo’s largest business unit is a stake in the Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba, but that is not included in the sale. Yahoo’s own operations are said to be worth between $6 and $8 billion, according to potential bidders.
Microsoft tried to take over Yahoo eight years ago for $45 billion, but that hostile takeover failed. Then the companies started working together.
