Intel’s upcoming Alder Lake-P CPUs for laptops may have a maximum of 14 cores and a TDP of 12 to 45W, according to a leaked roadmap. The roadmap also shows lower-end Alder Lake-M laptop CPUs with up to 10 cores and TDPs from 7 to 15W.
The leaked roadmap, published by Wccftech, confirms that the Alder Lake-P laptop chips will have Xe GPUs with up to 96 execution units. The CPUs also receive standard support for DDR5, Lpddr5, PCIe 5.0, Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 6E. According to Wccftech, the highest-ranking model will have six high-performance Golden Cove cores with hyper-threading and eight efficient Gracemont cores without hyper-threading. That equates to 14 cores and 20 threads.
The clock speeds are not mentioned, but the slide does confirm that Alder Lake-P chips get a TDP between 12W and 45W, depending on the model. This series thus serves as a replacement for the current Tiger Lake H45, H35 and UP3 chips, which are also intended for laptops and offer TDPs between 12W and 45W.
Wccftech’s roadmap also mentions the arrival of an Alder Lake-M series of laptop processors. Those chips would have a maximum of ten cores, which according to Wccftech comes down to two powerful cores and eight energy-efficient cores. That corresponds with previously leaked information about Intel’s upcoming frugal laptop chips.
This gives these CPUs TDPs between 7 and 15W. The roadmap also talks about support for PCIe 4.0 and Lpddr4x and Lpddr5 memory. PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 support seem to be lacking in this segment. Furthermore, support for Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 6E is mentioned and the Alder Lake-M chips get Xe GPUs with up to 96 EUs.
The roadmap states that the Intel Alder Lake-P CPUs will go into production between November 2021 and March 2022. The Alder Lake-M chips will follow later, between January and April 2022. It is not yet known when the earlier laptops with Alder Lake processors will appear on the market. Intel is expected to present its laptop chips at CES in January. The first Alder Lake desktop variants are expected as early as November.
