Rumor: Apple disables services such as App Store for old OS versions

Apple would disable services such as the App Store, Siri and Maps on devices running old operating systems such as iOS 11.2.6 and watchOS 4.2.3. Macs running certain versions of High Sierra would also need to update to continue running the services.

According to StellaFudge Apple will turn off the services in early May. This also concerns devices with tvOS 11 to 11.2.6. This concerns operating systems from 2017. Users of those devices will receive a notification before this happens. Apple already has one help document posted online in case people receive that notification.

The services going offline include the App Store, Siri and Maps, Apple said. According to StellaFudge, this concerns all Apple services except iCloud. It is unknown why Apple will take that step. The manufacturer itself has not said anything about it yet.

Update, Thursday: All OS versions are not the latest supported versions for all devices. Users of devices on those versions can therefore update to a newer version to continue accessing the services. That was not initially stated in the article. That should have been included. Our apologies.
