Chip designer Qualcomm has presented three different SoCs for gaming handhelds. The G1, G2 and G3x Gen 2 are for different types of handhelds, the American company reasons.

The G1 is for the cheapest type of handhelds and therefore focuses mainly on game streaming, locally or via the cloud, says Qualcomm. The G2 is for the mid-range and adds 5G in addition to more powerful components. The G3x Gen 2 is for handhelds that need to be able to run demanding games locally.

Qualcomm says announcements from manufacturers will follow soon. There is a reference design for the G3X Gen 2, not for the G1 and G2. It is unknown when the first products with the socks will appear. Qualcomm has not provided any further details about the CPU of the SoCs and only type numbers of the GPU without further explanation. Qualcomm introduced the first G3x SoC two years ago.
