The YouTube app will be integrated into the Android Automotive OS in dashboards of the Swedish electric car Polestar 2. In addition, Apple CarPlay and Range Assistant will receive some new functions after the P2.9 ota update.

YouTube integration allows users to stream videos while the car is charging, writes Polestar. Google already made this in January known that it was going to add the app to Android Automotive for Volvos. After Volvo, Polestar is the first car brand with YouTube integration in the operating system.

Furthermore, a number of functions have been added to Apple CarPlay. For example, it is now possible to integrate Apple Maps into the driver display behind the steering wheel instead of only via the separate display. In addition, users can now answer and end phone calls using CarPlay using the buttons on the steering wheel.

Finally, Polestar has updated its Range Assistant app. The automaker promises that it will now show “more accurate predictions.” Users can now track their energy use over the past 100km via the app, which is also shown on the display to the right of the steering wheel, and they are shown ‘real-time information’ ‘that allows them to adapt their driving style to drive more efficiently’.
