Plex lets multiple users watch movies or series in sync

Plex has released the beta version of the Watch Together feature, which allows multiple users to watch a movie or series in sync. With Watch Together, for example, a user can pause a movie or series and it will also be paused with the other users.

Watch Together allows users to invite other users into Plex to watch a movie or series together, Plex writes. The playback of a movie or series is synchronized between the users. In this way family members or friends can keep in touch via, for example, a video calling service and watch a movie or series together. Previously, people had to count down to be able to press play at the same time. Another advantage of the new function is that when someone pauses something to ask a question, for example, it is also paused for the other users.

The feature is now available on the iOS, tvOS, and Android versions of Plex, as well as FireTV, Nvidia Shield, and Roku. Support for other platforms such as the browser will follow ‘soon’. The feature works with Plex’s on-demand series as well as user library content. Plex does emphasize that it is an experimental feature and that improvements are still needed. At the same time, the service also asks users for feedback. For example, Plex wants to know whether users want, for example, a chat function or ban rights to remove ‘annoying’ fellow viewers from the group.
