Pinterest takes over Instagram

Pinterest acquires the Instapaper service for an undisclosed amount. Instapaper is comparable to services such as Pocket and can be used for later retrieval of articles found online. Instapaper will continue to exist as a standalone app for now.

According to Instapaper, the acquisition by Pinterest will allow the service to further expand and improve. The Instapaper team is moving from New York to Pinterest’s San Francisco office, but nothing will change for users of the service for the time being. However, Instaparser, a tool for developers, is being discontinued. Immediately it is no longer possible to sign up for this and the service no longer charges for existing customers. Instaparser will continue to operate until November 1, 2016.

Instapaper is available for iOS and Android and, in addition to a free version, also has a subscription form. Those who pay $2.99 ​​per month or $29.99 per year can, among other things, search the text of all saved articles, create an unlimited number of notes, and send articles to a Kindle reader.

It is the second time that Instapaper has been acquired. In 2013, Betaworks, the owner of Digg, bought the service from developer Marco Arment. No acquisition amount was disclosed at the time.
