A CEO of TCL, the parent company of smartphone maker Alcatel One Touch, has openly ogled HTC. He says in a post on Weibo that companies from China and Taiwan must “hold hands” in the fight against Apple.

In the message, the CEO of TCL also expresses the hope that HTC can make a comeback in the smartphone market, where HTC has not been doing well financially and in sales figures for several years. According to the South China Morning Post, it is a reference to a collaboration or partnership between the two companies, which the CEO is talking about.

The TCL CEO says that both companies need each other in the fight against Apple in the smartphone market. Why he only refers to Apple and not to market leader Samsung or Chinese competitors such as Huawei, Lenovo or Xiaomi is unknown. TCL does not make models with Alcatel One Touch that compete with iPhones, because the manufacturer’s devices are only in lower price ranges.

HTC has been the subject of speculation since the decline. The question is whether it can remain independent in the long term. Although the Taiwanese manufacturer earns less money than before and sells fewer devices, it is known worldwide. This makes it an attractive acquisition candidate.
