The Meta Oversight Board, which reviews moderation decisions by Facebook and Instagram, raises concerns about the current policy on manipulated content. The current form is said to be ‘incoherent’ and ‘without convincing justification’.

The independent moderation body, founded by Meta, says I also support the tech giant’s decision to leave a video online that has been edited in such a way that it appears as if American President Joe Biden is touching the breast of his adult granddaughter.

The Facebook post would not violate Meta’s policies because the images and audio were not created using AI. The Board further states that the average user is unlikely to be misled by the video because the change to the video clip is “obvious.”

Previously, the Meta Oversight Board asked for users’ opinions on this issue. While the Board agrees with Meta’s decision to allow the Biden video, it also believes Meta should “swiftly consider” the policy, especially due to the upcoming 2024 election.
