People Can Fly, the developer behind Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, is working on a new game in collaboration with Microsoft. The title will be codenamed Project Maverick and will be based on an Xbox franchise. More details are not yet known.

Documents show that Project Maverick is fully financed by franchise owner Microsoft and gets a budget of 30 to 50 million dollars, Video Games Chronicle also noted. The Polish studio says this week it has signed a production and publishing deal for a triple-A game with Microsoft.

The game will be based on a franchise owned by Microsoft, although it is not yet clear which franchise it is. There is speculation that this is a new Gears of War title, given People Can Fly’s previous work on Gears of War: Judgment with its then-owner Epic Games. However, the developer and Microsoft do not confirm this.

People Can Fly has also worked on Bulletstorm in the past. The studio’s most recent game, co-op shooter Outriders, was released in 2021 and was published by Square Enix. In 2020, the studio said it was working on a “very ambitious action adventure game” for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. Little has been heard about that title since. In September it was announced that the company would no longer work with publisher Take-Two.
