OtherSide Announces System Shock 3
After OtherSide Entertainment put a teaser online last week, the publisher has now officially announced System Shock 3. With a questionnaire, the studio seems to want to ask whether gamers want to be able to play the successor to the first two classics in virtual reality.
Interested parties can register for a newsletter and will immediately be presented with a questionnaire. OtherSide asks whether people have played previous versions of System Shock, what their favorite game platform is and how much respondents are interested in virtual reality.
With that last question, the studio seems to want to find out whether it is worth including support for virtual reality in the game. When System Shock 3 should be released has not yet been announced. It is also not yet clear on which platforms this will happen. A PC version is obvious, given the game’s history. However, OtherSide may also bring the game to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, if many users show interest.
The game is made by OtherSide Entertainment, a studio founded by Paul Neurath. He was also the founder of Looking Glass Studios, which made the original System Shock games. The website also lists Night Dive Studios. That company bought the System Shock rights and in recent years re-released the first two volumes as enhanced editions.
The first installment in the System Shock series appeared in 1994 and System Shock 2 came out in 1999. The cyberpunk themed action RGPs were well received at the time and are considered classics within the genre.
