OnePlus demonstrates a prototype of a 5G smartphone during the Mobile World Congress. This shows that the company is not ready for production yet with its 5G smartphone, which would be released in the first half of this year.

OnePlus shows the 5G prototype on the Qualcomm booth during the telecom show that starts on February 25 in Barcelona. Xda-Developers quotes from an announcement that says so. Visitors will be able to experience the ‘capabilities of 5g gaming on a OnePlus 5g prototype’ at the show.

The announcement shows that the 5G smartphone from OnePlus is still a prototype. This seems to indicate that the Chinese manufacturer is not yet making a concrete product announcement of the device during the MWC.

At the end of last year, OnePlus indicated that it would be one of the first manufacturers with a 5G device. Then the manufacturer also announced that it would be a model in a new series and not the successor of the OnePlus 6T. That device, presumably the OnePlus 7, will not receive 5G support.

In December, a glimpse of a 5G prototype from OnePlus was already visible in a video. This may be the prototype that can also be seen at the fair. At the time, the manufacturer said that the phone will be released in the United Kingdom in the first half of 2019 and that the device will work on British Telecom’s network.
