Nintendo ships more copies of Zelda game for Switch than Switch consoles
Nintendo shipped more copies of the Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in its first month than the Switch console itself. The Japanese company does not answer the question of how that is possible.
In total, Nintendo’s quarterly figures since its release in early March through the end of the quarter at the end of March show 2.76 million shipped copies of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Switch. The number of copies of the Switch console delivered amounted to 2.74 million.
Nintendo also said it will come with two DLC packs for the Zelda game. The first will be released in the summer, the second will follow in the winter of next year. Other than Zelda, Nintendo mentions that the 1-2 Switch has sold nearly a million copies, while Konami’s Super Bomberman game has shipped 500,000 copies. Snipperclips now has 350,000 installations. In total, almost 5.5 million software titles have been delivered for the Switch.
Nintendo delivered a total of 3.84 million copies of the Zelda game; more than a million of those copies were of the Wii U version of the game.
Super Mario Run has nearly 150 million installs on iOS and Android, according to the company. Nintendo does not mention how many users have made the in-app purchase of ten euros to be able to play all content.
Nintendo also presented the 2DS XL handheld on Friday. In Europe the ratio between sales of 2DS and 3DS is now about fifty-fifty, in other parts of the world customers more often buy the 3D version of the handheld.
The Japanese company recorded slightly less turnover in the first quarter than in the same period last year and amounted to approximately four billion euros. Operating income was also slightly lower, at around EUR 241 million.
