Mozilla will offer the Firefox Private Network proxy extension for $2.99 per month. The company has announced that. The extension encrypts users’ connections to the browsers, which is useful on public Wi-Fi access points.

Mozilla wants to know if users are willing to pay for an extension to encrypt the connection at all times, the company reports. The extension is initially available in the US and will later become available in other countries. It is not yet clear whether, when and at what price the extension will be available in the Benelux.

For the time being, it concerns a limited number of users who can take out a subscription for the service. Mozilla is still considering bundling the service with other paid services, but first wants to test how attractive Private Network has as a separate service.

Mozilla announced Firefox Private Network in September last year. Private Network is separate from Mozilla’s VPN service, which works in all apps of an operating system and costs $5 a month in the US.
