Microsoft suspends Windows 10 1903 update for Surface Book 2 due to GPU problem
Microsoft has stopped distributing the Windows 10 1903 Update for its own Surface Book 2 laptops with Nvidia graphics due to a bug. There is a chance that the video card will disappear from the device manager after the update.
The bug can lead to performance issues and instability. The video output of the Surface Book 2 does not completely die when the bug occurs, because the Intel CPU also has a GPU on board that takes over. There are also Surface Book 2 models that do not have a separate graphics card on board and the update block does not apply to this.
It is not the first time that the update has encountered problems. Update 1903, for example, cannot be installed on PCs with USB storage media or SD cards, and problems can also occur in combination with Remote Desktop. The first problem can be solved by temporarily ejecting the media and the second is being worked on, according to the status page for this version.
Perhaps in response to issues like this, starting with this update, also known as the May 2019 Update, Microsoft introduced the feature to specifically defer major updates. The postponement can last up to the end-of-service period.
