Microsoft has started the limitation of the storage limit on OneDrive announced last year. With a free account, a maximum of 5GB of files can now be stored, previously that was 15GB. Also, the bonus of 15GB to store photos disappears.

Microsoft has set up a support page with details about the changes, which will be implemented as of now. In November 2015, Microsoft announced that it would limit OneDrive’s storage limits. Limiting “unlimited storage” to a maximum of 1TB for Office 365 customers has come under criticism for the company. Also, users were not happy with the shrinking of their free storage space.

Microsoft addressed these people with a temporary promotion: users with a free account could indicate until January 31 this year that they did not agree with the changes. People who have done that can still save 15GB and also keep their bonus of 15GB for saving photos to the camera album.

Users who have more than 5GB in their OneDrive and whose account is being restricted will be notified by email at least 90 days before this is implemented. Additional storage space can be obtained for a fee. A subscription that offers 50GB costs 2 euros per month. Office 365 Personal with 1TB storage space costs 7 euros per month.
