Microsoft prepares graphing calculator for Windows

Microsoft may extend the calculator in Windows with graphical features. An idea for this has been given pre-production status with Microsoft’s Calculator development project on GitHub.

That GitHub project now includes thirty ideas, pitched by users. An idea has now made it to pre-production status so that preparations are being made for development.

The proposal is to give the Windows calculator basic properties of a graphing calculator. For example, the calculator must be able to interpret mathematical functions, understand linear and quadratic models and process trigonometric functions.

“With a graphing calculator, we can improve the learning capacity of students by involving them more and providing visualizations of mathematical functions,” said the initiator. He has added a concept of how the elaboration can roughly look like.

Microsoft released the Windows calculator app open source on GitHub in early March.
