Microsoft is testing a feature that recommends files in Windows 11’s File Explorer. The feature shows relevant files that users might want to open at the top of the Home tab. It is not known when the feature will be available to all users.

The file recommendations are available to select users running Windows 11 Insiders Preview Build 23403 from the Dev Channel, writes Microsoft. Users must be logged in with an Azure Active Directory account. This means that the feature currently appears to be mainly intended for business use.

Recommended files come from that Azure directory, the company says. This concerns the user’s own cloud files or files that have been shared with the user via Azure. Microsoft says the feature shows “the most relevant files,” but doesn’t say how it determines which files are relevant.

It is unknown if and when the feature will appear in a stable version of Windows 11. Microsoft does not provide any concrete information about this. The company does say that it is monitoring feedback and seeing how the feature is received before rolling it out to more Windows Insiders users in the Dev channel.
