Microsoft is integrating Skype features deeper into Windows Mobile 10 with beta app

Microsoft has released a beta of a Skype app for Windows 10 Mobile without fanfare. It concerns Skype Messaging for Windows 10 Mobile. The messaging app can be found in the Windows Store and integrates the chat app more deeply into the mobile operating system.

The beta of the Messaging Skype Beta app integrates various separate Skype components in places “where you would expect them”, according to the brief information on the app store page. Skype Messaging in the messages, Skype Calling in the telephone applications and a quick access way to Skype Video Calling.

In June, Microsoft announced that it would stop offering the Modern UI version of Skype in July. Users then automatically received an update that installed the desktop version of Skype. The company also indicated at the time that it had plans to integrate Skype more into various messaging, calling and video applications in Windows 10.

Users of the beta do agree that their crash logs will be used to help prevent problems. It is not yet clear whether the app or a variant thereof will replace the current desktop client on Windows 10 PCs. Several screenshots came to Twitter on Sunday Outside.
