Microsoft has announced its Xbox Play Anywhere program. Players can buy games that fall under this heading for the Xbox One, but then also play them on Windows 10 and vice versa. Gears of War 4 will be one of the first games to come under Xbox Play Anywhere.

Xbox Play Anywhere was announced at Microsoft’s Xbox press conference at this year’s E3 games show in Los Angeles. This also immediately announced that Gears of War 4 will also come to Windows 10. Xbox Play Anywhere not only means that players buy their games for two platforms, but also that progress, save games and achievements are transferable between the two platforms.

In the case of Gears of War 4, Microsoft goes one step further: all co-op modes, such as Horde Mode and the co-op campaign, support cross-platform play. A gamer on Windows 10 can therefore play in Gears of War 4 together with a gamer on an Xbox One. Gears of War 4 will be released on October 11.

Xbox Play Anywhere also includes Forza Horizon 3, Halo Wars 2, Scalebound, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, and ReCore. Presumably, the same will apply to future games published by Microsoft itself.
