MediaTek presents a new variant of its Dimensity 1000-soc with built-in 5g modem. The 1000+ variant may be a slightly faster version, similar to the plus versions Qualcomm makes of socs. The soc now supports 144Hz displays.

In the announcement of the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+, the manufacturer does not mention the exact specifications. The company reports that the soc is based on the Dimensity 1000 series, the first soc in it was announced last year. MediaTek refers in the announcement to the specification page of that soc.

According to cnBeta, which attended a presentation of the soc, the new variant can drive screens with a refresh rate of 144Hz. With the regular Dimensity 1000, that is a maximum of 120Hz. The plus variant would be intended for gaming smartphones.

So far, no smartphones with the regular Dimensity 1000-soc have appeared, but phones with the Dimensity 1000L have been released, including the Oppo Reno3. That L version is probably a variant that performs less well, while the plus version probably uses the best chips and can therefore be clocked higher or consume less. It is not clear why the regular Dimensity 1000 is not yet available in smartphones.

The Dimensity 1000 socs are made at 7nm, have four Cortex-A77 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores. The GPU is a Mali-G77MP9 and MediaTek provides the third-generation soc with its AI chip. The integrated 5G modem only works on frequencies below 6GHz and offers a maximum download speed of 4.6Gbit/s. The upload speed is a maximum of 2.5 Gbit/s.
