Media Molecule will end support for PS4 game Dreams in September
Media Molecule will end support for PS4 game Dreams on September 1. The developer reports this in a blog post on Tuesday. The game will remain playable after that date, but will not receive any updates. The developer is going to focus on a new project.
Media Molecule, which is part of PlayStation maker Sony, reports on Tuesday that it will stop ‘live support’ for Dreams in September. After that date, the game will not receive any new updates. In-game events, such as DreamsCom and the Impy Awards, will also no longer take place from September. The company says it will come up with a number of updates before then, which should, for example, implement animation improvements in the game. The Create mode also gets a final update.
The game will no longer have a multiplayer mode, Media Molecule says. The studio previously said it is working on it. Also, the game will not get a PS5 version, nor will it have PS VR2 support. At the end of May, Dreams will be transferred to a new server. From then on, users will be given a total storage limit of 5GB for their creations. The studio says this is done to “maintain the security and stability of the Dreams server for all players.” Creations uploaded for the server migration do not count towards the limit. Furthermore, a number of other features, such as Twitch integration, disappear from the title.
Media Molecule promises to continue highlighting player creations on social media after September 1 and to do the same in-game through curation. The company also says it will start working on a new project. Media Molecule confirms that it is not Dreams 2, nor will it be based on the Dreams franchise.
Dreams appeared for the PlayStation 4 in 2020. In Dreams, players can create their own games and experiences and then share them with other players. The game was created by Media Molecule, a studio that previously worked on LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway.
