Apple has released macOS 13 Ventura. The biggest change to the operating system is the so-called Stage Manager, where recent apps remain as a dock on the left of the screen. Spotlight also gets more search functions.

Ventura is available for Mac devices with both Intel chips and Apple’s own socs. The Stage Manager has been added to the operating system. That is a way to more easily switch between open programs. Stage Manager allows users to dock apps on the left side of the screen. Users can create different groups of apps or other open applications.

The new operating system also adds support for using iPhones as webcams. It’s called Continuity Cam. Users can dock their iPhone to the top of their Macbook. The software then automatically uses the phone’s rear camera as a webcam instead of the laptop’s built-in cameras. Continuity Cam has several useful features, such as the possibility to use the ultra-wide camera or to better illuminate the user’s face.

Users can now also use a new security feature Apple calls Passkeys. That’s a login method for Safari that replaces passwords. Users create a unique Passkey and can then log in with Touch ID or Face ID, without having to enter their password. Those Passkeys are stored in Keychain.

There are also many minor updates in the OS. Among other things, it will be possible to switch conversations between Macs and iPhones via the Handoff function. Both the Mail and Messages apps get buttons to undo sent messages, and like iOS 16.1, macOS Ventura gets support for creating shared folders in iCloud. The operating system will also receive new apps, including a Weather and Clock app, just like those that already exist on iOS.

Finally, the Spotlight search function will be expanded. From now on, he can also search for images in the Photos app based on location, but also on context, for example for people or objects. Spotlight can also search for text in images via Live Text and it is possible to preview a search.
