Linus Tech Tips tightens business processes to deal with criticism

Linus Tech Tips has published a new video addressing the criticism the YouTube channel has received. Founder Linus Sebastian shares how processes have been tightened, methodologies will be shared and work will be more transparent.

One of the first topics that Linus Sebastian addresses is the amount of videos that Linus Media Group produces every day. According to Sebastian LMG will no longer necessarily upload a video to YouTube every day and from now on there will be more focus on quality instead of quantity. For example, if a video is not completely ready, its publication may be postponed until the necessary adjustments and/or improvements have been made.

However, according to Sebastian, this does not mean that on-screen corrections will no longer occur. These can still take place, but Sebastian states that there will be more transparency about the error and also about the severity of the error. LMG developed an assessment matrix for this purpose, which lists different types of potential errors, as well as the corresponding measures, such as a complete reshoot or a pinned comment under a video. Sebastian states that the media company will also focus more on meetings where employees are present in person. This should ensure that no misunderstandings arise about projects. Sebastian also wants every employee to be able to interpret data sets correctly.

Internal and external control of figures

LMG will also provide transparency in its testing methodology. The procedures followed during certain tests are shared so that anyone who wishes can recreate similar scenarios. The YouTube channel will provide more updates on this topic in mid-September. Linus Media Group will also check all videos with Labs test results at least once before actually recording the video. After such a video is shot and edited, the numbers are reportedly double-checked.

Sebastian also returned to the videos in which incorrect data was presented. According to him, these have been removed from YouTube search results and demonetized. According to the man, updates or corrections will be added to older videos if errors are found. He does state that from now on the new assessment matrix will be used. According to the presenter, errors may also slip through the cracks in the future and that is why an Error Checking Community is being created. This community consists of some experts from the LTT community who know their stuff. They will examine data from videos again.

Transparency about sponsors

Despite the fact that we strive for accurate data, LTT will also conduct informal tests on tech products. According to Sebastian, this will be communicated more clearly. There will also be clear communication about the relationship the company maintains with sponsors and the company has created a new internal process to track goods from external companies at LMG. In this way they should no longer be lost and there should be no more misunderstandings about the final destination of the products.

Linus Tech Tips came under fire last week after Gamers Nexus, among others, stated that some results in LTT videos were incorrect. Gamers Nexus therefore questioned both methodology and ethical practices at Linus Media Group. After the criticism, LMG decided to stop making videos for a week. The company wanted to use that time to examine internal processes and improve them.
