LG invests in robots to take over household tasks

LG is going to invest heavily in robotics in the coming years, ultimately to release robots that can take over ‘daily human tasks’. In this respect, the manufacturer seems to think mainly of tasks in the household.

LG is not very specific about how much it is investing and which products it should lead to, but the manufacturer says in a statement to Reuters news agency that the products should work together with appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners.

To make that possible, LG is investing money not only in the development of those robots themselves, but also in smart home applications and the key components for that technology, such as autonomous driving and artificial intelligence.

LG has already taken several cautious steps that should eventually lead to these ‘household robots’. For example, it already has a robot vacuum cleaner with an augmented reality interface, it showed a fridge-freezer combination with Windows 10 last week and presented the Rolling Bot, a rolling gadget with a camera, six months ago.
