LG will release its Rollable smartphone this year. A spokesperson for the manufacturer confirms this. Earlier this week, LG showed the device with a roll-out screen in a short teaser. According to a rumor, China’s BOE is the screen supplier.

With the teaser in its CES press conference, LG wanted to show that the Rollable is a real product, a spokesperson for LG told Nikkei Asia. The spokesperson also says that it is a product that will be released this year.

LG has only shown teasers of the phone with a roll-out screen and has not yet given any details. It is not clear when the device will be released and what the specifications are. The images released this week show that the screen has a ratio of approximately 20:9 and can be rolled out to a larger screen with a 15:9 ratio.

According to Nikkei sources, the Chinese BOE is the supplier of the flexible OLED panel that LG will use in its Rollable device. BOE already supplies OLED panels to Huawei, among others.

OPPO showed a similar concept at the end of last year, but has no plans to actually release such a device yet. TCL has also shown teasers of OLED screens that can be used for a roll-out smartphone and, according to rumors, Samsung is also working on a roll-out device.
