iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 appear much faster than expected!

iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 are coming, and much sooner than expected: tomorrow! Apple just announced this during the Time Flies event. Your iPhone and iPad will get all kinds of great new functions very quickly!

iPadOS and iOS 14 release: what’s new?

iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 bring various innovations to your iPhone and iPad. For this you need an iPhone 6s or newer . These are the most notable new features.

  • App library. There are dozens of apps on your iPhone and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find them. On the iPhone you will soon have an App Library, in which all your apps will be sorted automatically.
  • Widgets. For the first time, your iPhone screen will look very different, because with iOS 14 you can place widgets between your apps. On the iPad, you can store the newly designed widgets in the sidebar of the Today View .
  • More compact notifications . If you are in the middle of a game, the entire screen is taken over by an incoming call. In iOS and iPadOS 14, it no longer happens to you, because the notifications are now narrow strips. Siri is also a lot more compact.
  • Messages . The Messages app gets a better overview. Pin your most important conversations, respond to a specific message, or address one person directly in a group conversation.
  • Scribble . If you have an iPad and an Apple Pencil, you can now use handwriting recognition. Written text is converted into typed text.
  • Translate . With the new Translate app, your iPhone becomes a translation machine that interprets between eleven languages.

There are also many small new functions. For example, you will soon choose what your default mail or browser app is, you can share app subscriptions with your family, there is an emoji search engine, view your videos picture-in-picture and tap captions to photos. Keep an eye on this website for all kinds of useful tips!

iPadOS and iOS 14 support

iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 work on all iPhones and iPads that can also run iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 . Usually Apple will stop supporting one or more older devices, but this year it won’t.

These are all iPhone models that support iOS 14:

  • iPhone 11 Pro (Max)
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone SE (Second generation)

Of course, iOS 14 also runs on the new iPhone 12 that will be released later this fall.

iPadOS 14 runs on the following iPads:

  • All iPad Pros

Download iOS 14

Updating to iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 can therefore be done on Wednesday, September 16, expected at 7 p.m. Updating is free and you can find the update via ‘Settings> General> Software update’. If you don’t download the update right away, a red dot will appear in the Settings app after a few days to remind you.

WatchOS 7 and tvOS 14

In addition to iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, watchOS 7 and tvOS 14 will also be available on Wednesday, September 16. The new version of watchOS will be suitable for the Apple Watch Series 3, 4, 5 – and of course the just-announced Series 6 and Watch SE . If your Apple TV is running tvOS, you will also be able to install the new version on it.

And Big Sur?

The latest version of macOS, Big Sur , was not mentioned in Apple’s presentation. Last year, the new macOS version was released in early October. We take into account the end of September, beginning of October for this year. But we will undoubtedly hear more about that soon.
