Home automation software Openhab now supports IFTTT

The developers of the Openhab home automation software this week added support for the popular linking service IFTTT. This makes it possible to easily link so-called ‘recipes’ to home automation.

The founder of the service announced this on his blog. He then writes that Openhab can be used as a trigger. This means that the home automation software can be used to initiate pre-programmed actions in IFTTT.

With IFTTT, which stands for If This Then That, users can make connections between certain services in advance. They do not need any programming knowledge to do this. For example, someone can have a weather report automatically added to their Google Calendar as soon as the mercury rises.

Openhab is written in Java and therefore runs on almost all operating systems. Also, the open source software is light enough to run on a Raspberry Pi or Arduino. It also offers a web interface for operation, which can also be accessed via mobile apps for Android and iOS. Openhab itself has also been offering links with other services for some time, which it calls bindings.
