Google releases preview version of Android Studio 2.0
Google has released an early version of Android Studio 2.0, an idea for creating Android applications. In the new version, developers can more quickly review changes they’ve made to their apps.
Details about the novelties of Android Studio 2.0 can be found on Google’s blog. The main new functionality is Instant Run, which allows faster visual viewing of changes in the code: the intention is that changes will already be visible after a quick refresh of the page, although this can take a little longer when used on mobile devices. The functionality should make developing Android applications faster. New projects automatically support Instant Run if Android Studio 2.0 is used for development, while existing projects have yet to enable it.
In an interview with TechCrunch, Stephanie Cuthbertson, Google’s product manager responsible for the development tool, indicates that in Android Studio 2.0 the compilation of applications should be about 2 to 2.5 times faster. Furthermore, the built-in emulators have been made faster and more possible, such as emulating network connections and GPS-controlled routes. A GPU profiler is also built in. The latter functionality is still under development.
Interested parties can download an early version of Android Studio 2.0 via the Canary channel. New features will be added to the software in the near future, but it is not yet clear when the final version should be released. Google released the first version of Android Studio late last year with the aim of making developing apps for the mobile operating system easier.
