Google releases API to automate tasks in Docs

Google has released the so-called Google Docs API, which allows developers to automate all kinds of tasks that still have to be entered manually in Docs files.

Google reports that the API makes it possible to automatically create new documents, retrieve the content of a specific document or periodically update a specific document. The api also supports the option to insert, delete, merge text in a document or adjust the text properties. Furthermore, the api makes it possible to convert a paragraph into a points list.

The Google Docs API has been in preview since last year and is now out for all developers. For example, companies can use this to automatically generate the same monthly invoice, based on a template. Netflix, among others, has already made use of the api, in the form of an internal tool to support its technicians in collecting data.
