Google is working on presentation tools on Chrome OS

Google is said to be working on tools to expand presenting capabilities on Chrome OS. The operating system, which is mainly aimed at education, would, among other things, have the possibility to highlight things in presentations and to add a virtual laser pointer.

Google is developing the features under the Projector name, reports Android Police. Instructions for this can be found in the Chromium gerrit, in which the codebase for Chrome OS is kept.

In addition to the laser pointer and the ability to apply markers, there would also be a speech recognition function that works with the same engine as ‘live caption’ on Android. Chrome OS would also be able to transcribe a lecture, presumably in English, in real time in order to show subtitles to students.

The functions will be placed in a dock on the left of the screen. That dock appears by clicking a toggle in the toggles menu. The options are not yet active at the time of writing. It is unknown if and when Google will test the features in a Canary version of Chrome OS. It is also unclear whether and when the functions will be live.
