Google is conducting another round of layoffs. A company spokesperson confirmed this to Business Insider. According to the tech giant, this concerns ‘several hundred’ jobs worldwide in the team that sells advertisements. Google also laid off hundreds of employees last week.

The message about the new round of layoffs at Google was the first to come out by Business Insider, which has obtained a memo from Google senior vice president Philipp Schindler. In it, he hinted that the layoffs would mainly fall under the Large Customer Sales division, or LCS, which sells advertising to major companies. The Google Customer Solution team, also known as GCS, would become the core ad sales team. That department sells advertisements to smaller customers.

Google confirmed the report to Business Insider. “Each year we go through a rigorous process to structure our team to provide the best service to our Ads customers,” Google spokesperson Chris Pappas told the tech website. “We are connecting customers to the right specialist teams and sales channels to meet their service needs. As part of this, several hundred positions are being eliminated globally and affected employees can apply for open positions or elsewhere at Google.”

Last week, Google also held a major round of layoffs. The company then told news media that it would cut several hundred jobs. This mainly involved employees from Google’s AR hardware team, the Google Assistant team, and Fitbit.

Several major tech companies have made layoffs in the past year. Amazon, Microsoft and Meta, among others, previously held several major layoffs, resulting in thousands of layoffs. Google parent company Alphabet also held a layoff round in early 2023. Then 12,000 jobs were cut.
