Google buys company where TV channels buy software for streaming
Google has acquired Anvato, a company that makes software for streaming video across various platforms. Many US TV channels use Anvato’s software for their online videos.
It is unknown what exactly Google wants with the services of Anvato. The search company reports that the teams at Anvato and Google Cloud Platform will collaborate to enable streaming of video on smartphones, tablets and desktops, among others.
In addition to live streaming technology, Anvato also has a method for companies to check where their copyright is being infringed on the internet, for example because people post their videos as their own footage.
Like Google, Anvato is located in the American city of Mountain View. The streaming company has been around since 2007 and has between ten and fifty employees, according to its own LinkedIn page.
