German game studio Daedalic is working on a game starring Lord of the Rings character Gollum. The game will be a point-and-click adventure game, like other titles from the maker’s oeuvre.

The game is based on JRR Tolkien’s books and not the movies, which probably means that actor Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the movies, is not affiliated with the project. The story in the game will take place in time from the moment Gollum, then called Smeagol, gets his hands on the One Ring and the moment he loses it, at the time of the story of The Hobbit. That is what Blue’s News writes on the basis of the announcement.

The game will run on the Unreal Engine and should be released in 2021 for PC and “all relevant console platforms at that time”, which leaves a lot of options open. Daedalic Entertainment was responsible for game series such as Deponia, The Dark Eye and The Whispered World in the past. Recently, it also announced a new strategy game. The studio was founded in 2007 and has about 75 employees.
